Why do you think that English Language arts and Literacy are important?
I personally think that ELA and literacy are extremely important in the classroom for several reasons.
- Oral and written language are vital for developing young students. Students that don't develop oral or written languages often have difficulty in keeping up with other students.
- Often children's ability to decode words can predict how they can comprehend in later grades.
- I think that the spread of "the spectacle" as discussed in the Literature Fair has started to become more main stream. I think that it is vital as a teacher to help take students away from that mindset and more into the written word.
